Spain is one of the fastest growing photovoltaic countries in the world. In 2007, 512MW was installed, and by the end of 2008, it exceeded 1GW.

The Planta13MW solar power plant built by Kyocera of Japan in Spain was put into use on September 18, 2007. The facility is located 12mi northwest of Sa1amanco. The P1anta solar power plant is a centralized power generation facility that serves a large number of remote users. The leading photovoltaic module manufacturer Kyocera supplies solar products to all over the world. Kyocera has solar module manufacturing centers in Japan, China, the Czech Republic and Mexico. In March 2011, the production capacity of photovoltaic modules reached 500MW per year.

Sun Power announced in early January 2008 that it had contracted for the engineering, equipment procurement and construction of approximately 8MW solar photovoltaic facilities in Extremadura, Spain. The company’s subsidiary in Spain’s Naturener Group commissioned the system in September 2008, which brought Sun Power’s total solar photovoltaic capacity to 30MW.

Sol Focus is a designer and manufacturer of solar energy solutions. Its solar energy solutions include concentrated thermal photovoltaic (CPV) systems, intelligent tracking systems and solar thermal utilization technologies. The company announced in mid-January 2008 that it had cooperated with the Spanish Institute of Concentrated Photovoltaic Systems (ISFOC) to set up the CPV matrix for the first time in the 3MW project of ISFOC in Castil1a-LaMancha (Figure 1).

One of the world’s largest solar farm facilities was put into use in Spain in mid-February 2008, with a maximum peak power capacity of 20MW. This solar farm is 42% higher than the solar farm at Ne1lis Air Force Base in Nevada (14MW) . The new solar farm is composed of 120,000 solar blocks. It is located in Jumil1a, a wine-producing region in southern Spain, covering an area of ​​247acre. The local sunshine is abundant, reaching 300 days a year. The annual electricity generated by the solar farm can be used by 20,000 households, which is equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by 4.2×104t annually and generating annual income of 28 million US dollars. Sun Power announced at the end of May 2008 that it had built two solar power generation facilities in Llerena and Lebrija, Spain, with a total power generation capacity of 8.7MW. The project was developed by the Spanish Solar pack company. The facility capacity in L1erena is 4.8MW, and the facility capacity in Lebrija is 3.9MW. As of May 2008, Sun Power has completed more than 100MW of solar power generation facilities in Spain.

Japan’s Kyocera Corporation and Spanish solar company Avanzalia have cooperated to build the world’s largest solar power station in central Spain with a scale of 30MW. The first phase (20MW) was completed in September 2008, and the second phase (10MW) was completed in June 2009. The power station is built in Cuenca Province and covers an area of ​​8.6×105 square meters. The first phase of the project (20MW) installs 105,600 solar panels produced by Kyocera, and the construction cost is 180 million Euros. The electricity generated is all purchased by the power company. It can meet the electricity needs of 6,300 ordinary households.

On September 8, 2008, Kyocera announced the use of photovoltaic modules to build another large-scale solar power generation facility for the Spanish renewable energy company Avanza1ia. This is one of the largest solar power generation facilities in the world. The facility is built in Casti1e-LaMancha, Cuenca Province, Spain. It can supply electricity to 9,200 households. It is equipped with 89,320 Kyocera PV modules. About 3,300t of steel is used to construct the support frame. It occupies an area of ​​200acre, which is equivalent to more than 100 football fields. area. The new facility is located at a height of 2600ft above sea level, and the annual sunlight exposure in this area reaches 1891kW·h/㎡.

Swiss solar inverter manufacturer Sputnik Engineering and solar system supplier Wurth So1ergy announced on September 19, 2008 that one of the world’s largest solar systems using copper-steel diselenide (CIS) modules in A1bacete, Spain, was put into power generation Operations. The system consists of 41600 solar modules and a 100kW central inverter, generating a total of 3.26MW of electricity. The annual power generation of the system will reach 1,607kW·h.

Trina Solar is an integrated manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products. Its products range from the production of silicon bonds, wafers and cells to the assembly of PV modules. It was founded in 1997. The company’s 26MW photovoltaic plant was opened in Moki on September 22, 2008. The plant is located in Fuente Alamo in the state of Murcia in southeastern Spain and mainly manufactures PV modules. Trina Solar’s project supplies a total of 26MW of 20MW monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon solar modules. The 26MW photovoltaic system can generate 4.4×104MW·h per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 13,000 households and can reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5×104t.

At the end of October 2008, Enfinity Management announced the completion of 4 ground-based solar photovoltaic systems in Spain. These projects are the first batch of ground-based photovoltaic systems that the company has set up, with a total capacity of 6.5MW, assisted by Martifier Solar. These systems can generate more than 9×106kWh per year.

On November 25, 2008, Sun Power announced the completion of the 18MWOlivenza solar photovoltaic power generation facility in Badajoz, Spain. Sun Power has set up its proprietary Sun Power T20 Tracker solar tracking system, which can increase the amount of sunlight captured by 30% compared with conventional fixed systems. The photovoltaic power generation facility covers an area of ​​about 70h㎡.

Two tracking solar power generation facilities with a total capacity of close to 16MW were completed in Spain on December 8, 2008. Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. cooperated with a+f company engaged in tracker production to supply about 50% of all modules used in the project. The project includes an 8.5MW solar power generation facility in A1ange and a 7.4MW solar power generation facility in A1conera. These modules are installed on more than 450 a+f Sun Carrier trackers, so that the power generation efficiency of the solar system is 32% higher than that of the fixed solar system.

As of November 2008, Sun Power has built more than 165MW power generation facilities in Spain. 500 solar photovoltaic power generation systems have been installed all over the world, totaling more than 400MW.
